Chrome extension

The HIG Audit Chrome extension audits the page you are looking at when you click the toolbar icon and choose Audit this page.

• It reads the HTML and accessible CSS of that active tab so it can score the page against The Web HIG.
• Scoring runs on your device. The extension does not send page content, URLs, or findings to HIG Audit or any other server.
• It does not use accounts, cookies, advertising, analytics, or cloud sync.
• It does not store page content after the popup closes.

The extension only accesses a tab after you invoke it. It does not run in the background and does not watch your browsing history.

This website

The web scanner is separate from the Chrome extension. If you submit a public URL here, HIG Audit fetches that URL’s publicly available HTML and CSS to produce a score.

• Leaderboard rows store the site host, submitted URL, audit type, HIG version, score, and related counts — not the full page HTML.
• We do not ask for a name, email, or account to run an audit.
• If Google Analytics is configured for this site, the analytics provider may collect standard usage data such as page views. The Chrome extension does not include analytics.

Sharing and sale of data

HIG Audit does not sell user data. The Chrome extension does not share page content with third parties. Public leaderboard scores are visible on this site because that is the purpose of the leaderboard.

Retention and your choices

Extension audit results exist only while the popup is open. Closing the popup or uninstalling the extension removes that in-memory result. To stop website leaderboard publication of a host you control, open an issue on GitHub and we will remove the row.

Changes

If data practices change, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date will change.
